These easy keto little smokies combine an excellent balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. They’re a perfect appetizer for parties and potlucks, or for any time you’d like a special savory dish! I made these little smokies on the stovetop, but if you’d prefer, you can also make them in a crockpot or in the oven.
Let’s talk about our keto jam and our mustard!
I love making homemade keto jam for my family, and that’s what I used for this dish. It’s quick and easy to make and it’s absolutely delicious! For these smokies I used blueberry blackberry jam. It’s one of our favorites and is perfectly sweet and fruity. When you make you own jam, you’ll know exactly what goes into it and can be assured there are no added ingredients you don’t want. Alternately, if you have a favorite keto jam, you can absolutely use it for this dish! For the mustard, I used yellow mustard. It adds amazing tang to these smokies and adds an awesome amount of mustard flavor. If you’d like to add a little kick to your dish, you could use spicy brown mustard in place of the yellow mustard.
What is the best sausage for making these easy keto little smokies?
There are quite a few brands of little smokies. Depending on the brand you use, they will vary in both their ingredients and in their carb counts. I recommend you check your nutrition labels when buying for both the ingredient list and the carb count. When looking at a variety of different little smokies, I found net carb counts per serving ranging from zero to six, which is quite a difference. Some little smokies are made from pork, some from beef, and some from a combination of pork and beef. You’ll also notice some brands add corn syrup and dextrose. There are brands that don’t add these and they’re usually the lowest in carbs. If you don’t want to use little smokies, you can certainly use your favorite cooked sausages. You can simply cut them into smaller pieces to more closely resemble the size of little smokies.
How do I make these easy keto little smokies?
You have a few options for making these little smokies. Either way you choose, you’ll want to start with stirring together the jam and the mustard. Then you’ll add your little smokies to the sauce. I made mine in a saucepan on the stove. This is a quick and easy method as you just need to bring the mixture to a boil and then simmer until heated through. You can also make these little smokies in a crockpot. If so, you can cook them on low until they’re heated through. It will take about 2-3 hours on low. You can also cook these in the oven. You’ll want to pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees, then bake them for about 30 minutes or until they’re heated through. Whatever method you choose to make them, these little smokies will turn out amazingly delicious!
