This keto Carolina gold bbq sauce is my new favorite sauce! It combines the perfect balance of tangy and sweet flavors! Enjoy!
This keto Carolina gold bbq sauce is a mustard based sauce with peppery, sweet, smoky, and tangy elements. I initially made this sauce to serve with pulled pork; but now I want to put it on everything! This sauce is bursting with bold flavors that complement all kinds of keto dishes!
Let’s talk about our sauce ingredients!
The base for this delicious sauce is yellow mustard, lots of yellow mustard! This gives our sauce incredible flavor and amazing color. We add apple cider vinegar to give this sauce the perfect amount of acidity. To achieve the perfect level of sweetness, we’re using two different keto sweeteners. I first tried making this sauce using only keto brown sugar, but found it was just too powerful in its tanginess. So for the next batch I increased the amount of brown sugar and added keto maple syrup. Oh, my! It was perfect! To add a depth of flavor, we add a little tamari. And although the majority of tamari is gluten free, I recommend checking your labels when buying. For seasoning, we add garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and smoked paprika.
Why would I want to make my own keto Carolina gold bbq sauce?
You have some great reasons for making your own sauce. First, when you make your own, you can be assured it only contains ingredients you want, and you can avoid unwanted ingredients. Even when buying low carb Carolina bbq sauce, there are often added ingredients you likely want to avoid. Some of these include artificial colors and flavors, food starch, molasses, and sucralose. Next, it’s a money saver to make your own sauce and since this sauce comes together in just 15 minutes, you’ll never have to worry about running out. Last, when you make your own sauce, you can tweak it if needed to suit your taste preferences. I find this sauce to be perfect, but you might want a more peppery aspect, a smokier flavor, or an even sweeter sauce. With just small changes in the amounts of ingredients, you can easily make this sauce your own!
What are some ways I can serve this keto Carolina gold bbq sauce?
You have some awesome keto options for serving this sauce. It can be used for any dish you serve with other barbecue sauces. It pairs nicely with any kind of meat including beef, chicken, pork, and even seafood. You can serve this sauce with pulled chicken or pulled pork, burgers, brats, ribs, grilled chicken, sausages, or pork chops, just to name a few. You can also serve this sauce with fish, shrimp, and most any kind of seafood. I make keto chicken nuggets and this bbq sauce makes a perfect dipping sauce for them. You can also drizzle some of this sauce over cooked vegetables or use it as a dressing for coleslaw. For sides, I enjoy making roasted kohlrabi, sauteed kohlrabi, roasted radishes, and sauteed rutabaga, and this sauce would be awesome drizzled over them!
