When you want a quick, easy, and delicious sweet and crunchy snack, these keto cinnamon sugar pork rinds are a perfect choice!
When I first tried these keto cinnamon sugar pork rinds, I couldn’t believe how awesomely delicious they turned out. I sometimes crush pork rinds and use them for a low carb breading option or as a filler for meatloaf, but I don’t often eat them plain. I was amazed that these cinnamon sugar pork rinds were so yummy and tasted more like crunchy churros than like pork rinds!
Let’s talk about pork rinds!
I started buying pork rinds for my husband who likes to eat them as a snack, just as they are. They’re great to use as dippers for hot and cold appetizer dips too. You can also crush them to use as a coating for meats or as a filler for meatloaf and meatballs. But what exactly are pork rinds? Pork rinds, also known as chicharrones, are made from pig skin. The skin is cut into slices, then baked in the oven at low heat for an hour or two. This removes most of the excess moisture from the skin. They can be eaten at this point, but they’ll puff up even more if they’re deep fried for a couple of minutes. Salt is usually added, either before baking or after deep frying. Any number of seasonings can also be added; but for this snack, I recommend using plain pork rinds.
What other ingredients go into these keto cinnamon sugar pork rinds?
I couldn’t believe how delicious this snack was and by adding just 3 simple ingredients to the pork rinds. I was also amazed that the end result was a crunchy cinnamon sugar snack that didn’t taste like pork rinds! To our pork rinds, we start by adding melted butter. I used salted butter to make my pork rind snack. The butter coats the pork rinds so that the delicious cinnamon sugar mixture will adhere to the pork rinds. To make our cinnamon sugar mixture, we combine keto granulated sugar and cinnamon. I used the Swerve brand for my sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs, and it’s quite similar in its sweetness level to regular sugar. To make cinnamon sugar, the perfect ration is 4 parts sugar and 1 part cinnamon; and that’s exactly what we use for this recipe.
How do I make these keto cinnamon sugar pork rinds?
This is a quick and easy snack to make, but it’s amazingly delicious! I found the easiest way to evenly coat the pork rinds in the butter and cinnamon sugar was to mix everything in a resealable plastic bag. You’ll want to first add the pork rinds to the bag. Then add the melted butter, seal the bag, and shake it to coat the pork rinds with the butter. You’ll want to combine your sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and stir to get them mixed before adding to the bag. Once you do this, you’ll add the mixture to the bag, seal the bag, and shake well to evenly coat all the pork rinds. At this point, you’ll simply place your pork rinds onto a large baking sheet, in a single layer. Bake them for 10 minutes, give them a stir, and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
