This smoky homemade keto ketchup is amazingly fresh and amazingly flavorful! Fresh tomatoes are combined with an awesome mix of ingredients and seasonings to make this delicious ketchup.
I love making my own ketchup, and this smoky homemade keto ketchup is my newest version. It has a warm and subtle smoky aspect which I love. You can make this ketchup according to your spice preference depending on whether or not you add a diced jalapeno to it.
Let’s talk about our main ingredients!
To make this ketchup, we start with fresh tomatoes. I’ve tried different tomato varieties to make ketchup, and I love the combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes. This produces amazing flavor with just the right sweetness and tomato flavor. The combination of 2 pounds of Roma tomatoes and 1 pound of vine ripened tomatoes cooks down to create the perfect consistency for our ketchup. To our tomatoes, we add chopped onions and garlic. I used a yellow onion, but you can use a red or white onion if you’d like. Since we’re going to blend our ketchup, we can just roughly chop our tomatoes and vegetables. I added a diced jalapeno to give my ketchup a nice kick of spice, but you can omit this if you’d like a mild ketchup. To create the perfect flavor and consistency to our ketchup, we add distilled white vinegar and vegetable broth.
How do I make this smoky homemade keto ketchup?
This ketchup is so easy to make! It does need to simmer for a total of two hours, so you’ll want to make sure you allow time for this before you start. To make this ketchup, you’ll add all of the ingredients to a large stockpot and stir to combine them. You’ll bring the mixture to a boil, then decrease the heat and simmer for an hour. I just stir my ketchup occasionally. Then I remove my ketchup from the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes. We then use a blender to blend our ketchup until it’s smooth. One of the great things about this recipe is that we don’t have to strain it. At this point, the ketchup simply needs to be added back to the stockpot and simmered for another hour to allow it to thicken to the perfect ketchup consistency.
How can I serve this smoky homemade keto ketchup?
You have some great low carb options for serving this ketchup! As a condiment, it can be served with all kinds of keto dishes. It’s great for topping burgers, brats, sausages, keto sandwiches, and lettuce wraps. It also pairs well with grilled meats. You can also top your favorite keto meatloaf or meatballs with this ketchup. My daughter and I love keto chicken nuggets and this ketchup is the perfect dipping sauce for them!
