Even if you’re rich, you’ll love this keto poor man’s steak! Enjoy as is or topped with keto brown gravy or keto ketchup!
My family loved this keto poor man’s steak so much, I had to make it twice in the first week I created this recipe. It will definitely be going onto our regular recipe rotation list! The combination of ingredients in this steak results in an amazingly juicy and flavorful steak that will be a huge hit every time you serve it!
Let’s talk about keto crackers!
To keep this dish low carb, we’re using keto crackers as a binder to help hold our steaks together and to add great flavor. There are some great keto cracker options available, along with some fun homemade cracker recipes; but my favorite keto cracker is from the Fat Snax brand. These crackers are almond flour based, which results in them being incredibly low in carbs. I used the basic sea salt crackers, but Fat Snax also makes cheddar and everything bagel crackers which would both work perfectly for this dish. I used my mini food chopper to make my cracker crumbs. Alternately, you can add your crackers to a resealable plastic bag and use a rolling pin to make your cracker crumbs. If you have a favorite keto cracker, you can absolutely use it to make your poor man’s steak.
What other ingredients go into our keto poor man’s steak?
I used a 93% lean ground beef mixture for my steaks. This keeps the steaks from being too greasy and also keeps the calorie count down. You can use a fattier mixture if you’d prefer, just know this will result in a steak that’s more on the greasy side. To our ground beef, we add finely diced onions, heavy whipping cream, our keto cracker crumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. I used a yellow onion, but a white onion would be a great choice as well. Traditional poor man’s steak uses milk, but by using heavy whipping cream, we add incredible richness, and we keep these steaks low carb. I used all keto almond crackers to make my poor man steaks, but if you’d like you can use ½ keto cracker crumbs with ½ crushed pork rinds to make this dish.
