Let’s talk about egg roll in a bowl!
Egg roll in a bowl is a quick, easy, and low carb dish made in a skillet on the stovetop. It’s called egg roll in a bowl because it contains the traditional elements of an egg roll, but it’s served in a bowl instead of in egg roll wrappers. This keeps the dish low in carbs, but it retains all the awesome flavors of egg rolls! The word, “egg,” in eggroll comes from the egg roll wrappers, so there isn’t actually an egg in our dish. But you can absolutely add a scrambled egg or two to yours if you’d like! There are a variety of ingredients that can go into an egg roll, and there are also a variety of ingredients that can go into egg roll in a bowl recipes. Another great thing about egg roll in a bowl is that it only takes 30 minutes to make!
Can I make any substitutions for this sriracha pork egg roll in a bowl?
You have some great substitution options for this dish! I used ground pork, but you could use ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey if you’d rather. I love the warm, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors that fresh ginger brings to this dish, but you can substitute with ground ginger if you’d like. You’ll want to use ¼-½ teaspoon of ground ginger in place of the 1 tablespoon of fresh. You can also substitute beef or vegetable broth in place of the chicken broth. There are sugar free sriracha sauces available, but they aren’t always easy to find. If you’d like, you can substitute with a different hot sauce. Cholula hot sauce is one of my favorites and is a really good substitution for the sriracha. To control the heat level of your dish, you can start with a little hot sauce and add more to taste.
