This keto red enchilada sauce is amazingly flavorful and amazingly easy to make! You can also double or triple this recipe if desired!
It takes just 20 minutes to make this delicious keto red enchilada sauce. We combine just a few simple but incredibly flavorful ingredients to make it. We love this flavorful enchilada sauce and think you will too! Enjoy!
Let’s talk about our ingredients!
We combine just a few simple ingredients to make this delicious sauce. We start with tomato sauce which brings the perfect amount of tomato flavor without adding too many carbs. I’ve made this sauce using water and it was quite tasty; but after trying it with broth, it’s the only way we make it now! I used vegetable broth, but you can substitute with chicken or even beef broth if you’d like. For the broth, I used regular sodium broth. You can also use reduced sodium broth and then add a little extra salt to taste if needed. For seasoning, we combine chili powder, cumin, dried oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder. This is a mild enchilada sauce. If you’d like to add some heat, it’s easy to do! You can add more chili powder, add some hot chili powder, cayenne powder, or some chipotle powder.
How do I make this keto red enchilada sauce?
This enchilada sauce is incredibly easy to make and comes together in under 30 minutes. You’ll want to add all your ingredients to a medium saucepan. I use a whisk to combine my sauce ingredients, but you can use a large spoon if you’d rather. We bring our sauce to a boil over medium high heat, then decrease the heat to medium and simmer for about 10 minutes. You’ll want to occasionally stir or whisk the sauce while it simmers, scraping the bottom and sides of the saucepan if necessary. Simmering the sauce helps it to thicken a little and removes any metallic taste from the canned tomato sauce. One of the great things about this sauce is that you can easily double or triple it if you’d like to make a larger batch! This sauce, stored in an airtight container, will last for about a week in the refrigerator.
What are some ways I can serve this keto red enchilada sauce?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this sauce. You can make something akin to regular enchiladas using gluten free almond flour or coconut wraps. Egg white wraps are another great choice. This sauce is perfect for topping keto tacos and fajitas. You can also add it to cauliflower rice to make a delicious side dish! Another great option is to add this enchilada sauce to chili, soups, and casseroles. It’s also delicious drizzled over cooked vegetables and all kinds of egg dishes. You can use it as a condiment for burgers, brats, and sausages. For a delicious main, you can also add some of this sauce to a crockpot with chicken or pork and let it cook all day! Another fun option is to make a salad dressing by simply combining this enchilada sauce with some sour cream.
