Let’s talk about our homemade taco seasoning mix!
I love making homemade seasoning mixes, and taco seasoning is one I make often. You have some great reasons for making homemade seasoning mixes. First, it’s quick and easy to make your own seasoning mixes, and it’s also a money saver. Next, when you make your own seasoning mixes, you can be assured there are no unwanted ingredients, which are often added to pre-made mixes. Some of these include artificial coloring and flavoring, corn starch, maltodextrin, and sugar. Also, when you make your own seasoning mixes, you can customize the spices and amounts of spices to suit your taste preferences. For our homemade taco seasoning, we combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt, onion powder, pepper, and oregano. This is a fairly mild seasoning mix. If you’d like to up the heat level, you can add some cayenne pepper or some red pepper flakes to your mix.

What other ingredients go into this low carb taco pie?
I used a lean ground beef mixture to make my taco pie. Alternately, you can use ground turkey to make this dish. You will want to make sure you drain the grease from your meat before adding the meat to the pie plate. We then combine eggs, heavy whipping cream, salsa, and shredded cheese which combines to make our taco pie incredibly filling and incredibly delicious. When buying salsa, you’ll want to make sure there is no added sugar. For cheese, I used colby jack cheese, but you can use any good melting cheese for your taco pie. Some great options include colby, gruyere, havarti, Monterey jack, mozzarella, provolone, regular or smoked gouda, or Swiss cheese. If you’d like to add a little heat, you could use pepper jack cheese. For the best results, I do recommend buying a block of cheese and shredding it yourself.

What are some ways I can serve this low carb taco pie?
