These Christmas keto green beans with prosciutto were one of the stars of our Christmas dinner! If you want an awesome side dish to make any meal extra special, these green beans in a rich sauce along with prosciutto will not disappoint! Quick and easy enough to make any time, yet elegant enough to serve for holiday meals or dinner parties, this recipe is sure to please!
Let’s talk about some of the main ingredients in these Christmas keto green beans with prosciutto!
Green beans are an awesome choice for a low carb vegetable. They also provide you a good source of fiber, folic acid, and vitamins A, C, and K. I used fresh green beans for this dish, but you could use frozen if you’d like. Prosciutto is a dry-cured ham. It is rich and salty and incredibly delicious. You can buy prosciutto thinly sliced or diced. I recommend using diced prosciutto for this recipe. Using just a couple of tablespoons of diced onions gives this dish taste and texture, while helping to keep the carb count low.
Let’s talk about the sauce!
The sauce for this recipe includes just a few ingredients; but I think you’ll be impressed with the depth of flavor they create. Keto brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and tamari are combined to create the perfect combination of sweet and savory to coat the green beans, prosciutto, and onions. Most brands of tamari are gluten free; but you’ll want to read your labels to check when buying. The prosciutto is salty, so I suggest giving your dish a taste before adding any additional salt or pepper. Then season to taste!
Do you have any tips for making these Christmas keto green beans with prosciutto?
I do have a few tips for making these green beans. First, I steamed my green beans until they were fork tender, but still had some crisp to them. You can steam or cook your beans to the tenderness level you prefer. Next, after adding the brown sugar mixture to the skillet, you’ll want to allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes. This will allow the brown sugar time to caramelize a little. Yum!😊Last, since the prosciutto is salty, you’ll want to taste them and then add salt and pepper if you’d like. We loved these green beans and I know they will become a regular at our house. I hope you love them too!
