Are blackberries keto?
Although many fruits are high in carbs and are not part of the keto plan, blackberries, in moderation, are a great keto fruit option. One cup of blackberries contains about 6 net grams of carbs. For comparison, one cup of strawberries contains 7-8 grams of net carbs, and a cup of raspberries contains about 7 grams of net carbs. Blackberries provide some important nutrients including manganese and vitamins A, C, and K. They also contain valuable antioxidants and are a good source of fiber.
What other ingredients go into this keto blackberry lemon iced tea?
To our blackberries, we add keto granulated sugar. I used the Swerve brand for my sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs, and it is delicious! You can use any keto sugar you’d like. Just know that while Swerve is a 1:1 substitution for regular sugar, meaning you’ll use the exact amount of Swerve as you would sugar, other keto sugars have differing levels of sweetness, and the amount you use will need to be adjusted accordingly. I recommend, if possible, you use fresh lemon juice for this drink. It brings just the right amount of lemon tang to this drink. A little salt is also added. For our unsweetened iced tea, you can use your favorite brand of unsweetened iced tea, or you can choose to make your own if you’d like.
Is this keto blackberry lemon iced tea difficult to make?
This is a fun and easy recipe to make, but I’d like to share a few tips with you so yours turns out perfectly every time. First, while your blackberry mixture is simmering, you’ll want to use a spoon to smash your blackberries against the sides of your saucepan to break them up as they cook. Then, after they cook down, you’ll want to strain your blackberry mixture using a fine mesh sieve. I do this while the mixture is still hot. I use a spoon to press the mixture through the sieve and get about 1 cup of strained juice to add to the iced tea. You can discard the solids or use them in another recipe. After adding your blackberry mixture to your unsweetened iced tea, you can either serve immediately or can refrigerate until ready to serve.
