This keto pumpkin hot chocolate is autumn in a mug! Hot chocolate never tasted so good! Enjoy!
Pumpkin and chocolate pair perfectly in this keto pumpkin hot chocolate! This warm comforting drink is rich, creamy, and decadently delicious. It is also keto and low carb. But if you don’t tell anyone, they would never guess it! My family loves this hot chocolate and I hope you will too!
What is the base for this hot chocolate?
The base for our hot chocolate is a combination of unsweetened almond milk and heavy whipping cream. This gives our hot chocolate amazing richness, while keeping the carb count down. Not all almond milk is the same. You’ll want to check your labels to make sure you’re buying unsweetened almond milk. I buy almond milk that contains 30 calories and just 1 gram of carbs per cup. Heavy whipping cream is a great keto option. It is low in carbs and adds incredible richness and creaminess to both sweet and savory dishes. For this hot chocolate, you could substitute unsweetened coconut milk for the almond milk if you’d like. Just make sure it’s the kind in the carton, not the can.
What other ingredients go into this keto pumpkin hot chocolate?
To our almond milk and heavy whipping cream, we add canned pumpkin. You may see this labeled as pumpkin puree and they are the same thing. Just make sure you don’t buy pumpkin pie filling as it contains added sugar and is high in carbs. I used the Swerve brand of keto sugar as it contains zero calories and zero net carbs. It’s also delicious. Unsweetened cocoa powder and keto semi-sweet chocolate chips give our hot chocolate the perfect chocolate flavor! I used Lily’s chocolate chips. They contain zero net carbs and I think they taste as good as, if not better than, regular chocolate chips. A little pumpkin pie spice, salt, and vanilla round out our hot chocolate and bring out the flavors of the other ingredients as well.
How do I make keto whipped cream to top my keto pumpkin hot chocolate?
It is amazingly easy to make keto whipped cream. It is also superior in taste and creaminess. Once you make your own, you will never want anything else! I recommend chilling your mixing bowl and beaters in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before using. Also don’t take your heavy whipping cream out until you’re ready to use it. You want everything as cold as possible. Once your bowl is chilled, simply add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream with 2 tablespoons of keto powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. You’ll want to beat the whipping cream until stiff peaks form. This means when you remove the beaters, the whipped cream forms a peak and it completely holds its shape. You can easily double this recipe if you’d like. For a fun option, you can also experiment and substitute other extract flavors in place of the vanilla.
