Let’s talk about the ingredients in our dip!
For this dip we start with pork sausage. I sometimes use regular ground pork for this dip and sometimes I use mild pork sausage. I do recommend you check the nutritional label of your sausage so you can be assured there are no unwanted added ingredients. We then add cream cheese and diced tomatoes with green chilies. The cream cheese adds amazing creaminess and the diced tomatoes with green chilies add awesome flavor and texture to this dip. I love the addition of shredded cheddar cheese to this dish. I do recommend you buy a block of cheese and shred your own. This way you can be assured there are no added ingredients, and it melts so much better than pre-shredded cheese. For our taco seasoning, we add chili powder and cumin. If you have a favorite taco seasoning mix, you could use this for your dip.
How can I control the spice level in this crockpot cheesy sausage taco dip?
You have a few great ways to control the spice level of your dip. First, you can add more heat by using hot pork sausage instead of mild. For my tomatoes with green chilies, I usually use mild; but you can use the hot variety if you’d like to add more heat. A fun way to add heat to this dip is to substitute pepper jack cheese in place of the cheddar cheese. You can also add more chili powder or even add some red pepper flakes, cayenne powder, or some of your favorite hot sauce if you’d like to up the spice level of your dip even more!
How can I serve this crockpot cheesy sausage taco dip?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this dip! For dippers, you can serve this dip with low carb vegetables. Some great options include broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cherry or grape tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, or sliced bell peppers or radishes. You can also use your favorite keto crackers or chips as dippers. Cheese slices or meats such as pepperoni or salami are also great dipper options, as are cheese whisps or pork rinds.
