This clove studded keto glazed ham will be the star of your next holiday meal or family gathering! Words cannot do justice to how awesomely delicious this ham is!
I’m so excited to share this clove studded keto glazed ham recipe with you! I think most people have a favorite of either salty or sweet foods. I’m one of the salty ones!😊But I loved this ham and its glaze. The deep flavor from the cloves combined with the sweet of the brown sugar and addition of balsamic and mustard come together perfectly in this dish! This dish is easy enough to make any day but elegant enough to make for holidays and special occasions!
Let’s talk about studding our ham with cloves!
I love the flavor cloves bring to ham. Studding the outside of your ham with cloves imparts the flavor of the cloves to the meat of the ham. Cloves have a distinctive flavor. Their flavor is warm and subtly sweet with a slightly bitter aspect added in. It’s easy to stud a ham with cloves. You’ll want to use a sharp knife to score your ham diagonally. Then score in the opposite direction. You can cut in narrow or wide strips on your ham. It’s best to only cut your ham ¼-½ inch deep. Then you’ll simply press the sharp ends of the cloves into the centers of your criss cross cuts. You can use as many or as little cloves as you’d like.
What is the best ham to use for this clove studded keto glazed ham?
I used a bone-in ham. Since the ham is already cooked, you’re simply slowly warming it in the oven. Most hams are cured with salt, sugar, and various flavorings and seasonings. The amount of sugar, often listed in the ingredients as dextrose, used to cure the ham is usually minimal. You’ll want to check the carb count on your ham when buying. If you want, you can also buy an uncured ham that contains no sugar. Again, read your nutrition labels so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.
Do you have any tips for making this clove studded keto glazed ham?
This is an easy recipe, but there are a few things you can do to make sure you ham turns out perfectly every time! First, since the ham is already cooked, we are simply heating it up. For this reason, 325 degrees is the best temperature to use; and you don’t want to overcook the ham, or it could turn out dry. Covering the ham with foil will also help keep the moisture in your ham. You want the internal temperature for the ham to be 140 degrees. Next, when your ham hits 130 degrees, you’ll want to remove the cloves and drain all the liquid from your pan before glazing your ham. I like to serve my ham with the extra glaze that goes to the bottom of the baking dish. For leftovers, the ham and glaze reheat well too!
