Dad’s keto Swiss steak is a dish I created for my husband. I hope you enjoy this rich and delicious comfort food recipe as much as he does!
I love creating recipes. My husband and children are my official taste testers! All my dishes have to pass their rating and be declared by them to be, “blog ready!” My husband loves cube steak. Sometimes we simply fry it up; but he also loves it made into a comforting Swiss steak dish. I had made a recipe for Swiss steak for him quite some time ago. Since then, he has changed to a low carb diet. So I knew it was time to change the recipe up a bit to make it low carb and keto. He loved the resulting dish and I hope you do too!
What is cube steak?
Cube steak is steak which has been pounded and tenderized. It is given the name cube steak because of the cube shaped indentations left in the meat after it is pounded with a meat mallet/tenderizer. You can simply buy the steak already cubed or you can buy steak and pound it yourself. I prefer the first option.😉
Can this be prepared in a crockpot?
This would make a terrific crockpot dish. Simply fry the steaks and place them in the bottom of a crockpot sprayed with avocado oil. Sauté the onion, pepper, and garlic. Place on top of steaks. Combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the steaks. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
What can I serve with Dad’s Keto Swiss Steak?
There are numerous options for side dishes that would go great with this dish. You could make a nice mashed cauliflower rice side dish. This would taste great topped with some of the tomato gravy from the Swiss steak. Steam some broccoli or cauliflower and you have a complete meal to satisfy everyone in your house!
Helpful Hints:
*Remember you’re just browning the steaks in the skillet. They will fully cook in the oven.
*Keep a close watch on your garlic when you sauté it as it can easily burn.

Hi Stacey, I didn’t grow up eating this so it was new to me when I learned my husband liked it. I hope you enjoy it and I’d love to hear what you think after you try it!

My mom used to make this when I was growing up but i was was not a fan of tomatoes and so I wouldn’t try it, It was not until I was a late teen and was having dinner with a friend of mine and their family that I tried it for the first time and I liked it. My husband had never had it until I made it for him but it has become a favorite in our home. However, now that we are trying to eat healthier meals, I had to find a new version of it and I came across your recipe. I am anxious to try your version. I am sure it will be good because it is similar to the way I have learned to make it.
