Let’s talk about our spice mixture!
The spice mixture for these nuts comes together quickly with just a handful of ingredients, but it’s an amazingly flavorful mixture. We start with keto brown sugar. I used the Swerve brand as it contains zero calories and zero net carbs. It’s also quite similar in its sweetness level to regular brown sugar. We then add ground cayenne pepper and chili powder to give our nuts a nice amount of heat. Then we add a little salt, cinnamon, and paprika to complete our spice mixture. You can add even more cinnamon if you’d like. I used regular paprika for my spice mixture, but if you’d like to add a smoky element, you can substitute with smoked paprika.
What kind of nuts do we use to make these easy keto spiced nuts?
You have great leeway in the nuts you use to make your keto spiced nuts. I used an equal combination of almonds, pecans, peanuts, and walnuts for my nuts. You can use this exact combination or change things up if you’d like. Whichever you choose, I’d recommend using a total of 4 cups of nuts. For reference, one cup of almonds and one cup of walnuts contain about 8 net grams of carbs. One cup of pecans contains approximately 5 net grams, and one cup of peanuts comes in at about 11 net grams. Another good option is to add some macadamia nuts. These contain about 6 net grams of carbs per cup, and they’ll add more fat to this recipe. For a fun switch up, you can also add some pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds!
How do I make these easy keto spiced nuts?
These nuts are incredibly easy to make, but there are a few things you can do to ensure yours turn out perfectly! First, when making your spice mixture, you can decrease or increase the amount of cayenne pepper depending on how spicy you’d like your nuts to be. Next, when cooking your nuts, you’ll want to stir them frequently so they will cook and brown evenly. Because all stoves are different, if your nuts start to brown too quickly, you can turn the heat down to low. After adding the spice mixture, you’ll want to stir your nuts so they get evenly coated with the mixture. You can give your nuts a taste at this point and add more brown sugar if you’d like your nuts to be sweeter. Last, after removing your nuts from the heat, you’ll want to let them cool completely before serving or storing them.
