This extra creamy skillet cabbage is one of my new favorite cabbage dishes. My family loves this dish too and that always makes me especially happy! This is a perfect side for all of your favorite keto mains. It’s a fun and amazingly creamy cabbage dish that will be a hit every time you serve it!

Let’s talk about cabbage!
Cabbage is an awesome keto food choice and it’s so versatile to work with! Cabbage is low in calories and relatively low in carbs. One cup of chopped green cabbage contains about 3 net grams of carbs. In comparison, one cup of chopped red cabbage contains approximately 5 net grams of carbs. I love the fact that cabbage can be eaten raw or can be cooked. Raw, you can chop or shred cabbage and use it to make coleslaws and salads. When cooking cabbage, you can boil, braise, grill, roast, saute or steam it. For dishes such as this creamy skillet cabbage, we’re using cabbage as the star and making it into a delicious side dish. You can also incorporate cabbage into other dishes by adding it to soups, stews, and casseroles. I used green cabbage to make this dish, but you could add some red cabbage if you’d like!

What other ingredients go into this extra creamy skillet cabbage?
We start this dish by sauteing onions in a combination of butter and olive oil. I like to use a yellow onion for this dish, but you can use a white or even red onion if you’d prefer. You can dice your onion or roughly chop it if you’d like larger pieces of onions. We also add some garlic to this dish. You can add even more garlic to this dish if you want. For seasoning, we simply add salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. You can give your finished dish a try and add more salt and pepper to taste. The “extra creamy” in this dish comes from the addition of cream cheese, and it makes this dish incredibly rich and creamy. For the best results, you’ll want to cube your cream cheese and allow it to soften before adding it to your skillet.

Extra Creamy Skillet Cabbage
In under 30 minutes, you can have this amazingly delicious extra creamy skillet cabbage on your table! Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ small onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened and cubed
Instructions
1. In a large skillet, over medium high heat, saute onions in butter and olive oil 5 minutes, adding garlic during last minute.
2. Add cabbage, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Stir to combine. Saute for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add cream cheese and stir to combine. Cook 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until cream cheese is melted and mixture is heated through.
