This homemade keto chipotle ketchup combines the perfect combination of smoky, spicy, and tangy flavors! Enjoy!
We start with fresh tomatoes to make this amazingly delicious homemade keto chipotle ketchup! We then add a variety of ingredients and seasonings plus chipotle peppers to create this awesome low carb ketchup. The chipotle peppers in adobo sauce bring a wonderful smoky and spicy element to this ketchup which helps to make it so special!
Let’s talk about our tomatoes, onions, and chipotle peppers!
I’ve tried using different types of tomatoes to make ketchup. I found that the combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes results in a ketchup with the ideal thickness and texture. Roma tomatoes, also known as plum tomatoes, give our ketchup a little sweet aspect. They also cook down nicely which helps to thicken our ketchup. The vine ripened tomatoes add awesome flavor and juiciness to our ketchup. I used yellow onions for my ketchup, but white onions would work great too. If you’ve never tried chipotle peppers, you’re in for a real treat. They’re spicy and smoky and absolutely delicious. I added 3 chipotle peppers and some of the sauce they came in. For my ketchup, this came up to about ¼ cup of peppers and sauce. If you want more spice, you can add even more peppers to your ketchup.
What other ingredients go into this homemade keto chipotle ketchup?
In addition to experimenting with different kinds of tomatoes, I also tried different combinations of vinegars, broths, keto sugars, and spices before finally coming up with my ideal homemade ketchup ingredients. We start by adding distilled white vinegar, vegetable broth, and keto granulated sugar. Then we add an awesome mix of spices which gives this ketchup an amazing depth of flavor. We add celery salt, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, smoked paprika, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. To make this ketchup, we add all our ingredients to a large stockpot and simmer the mixture for an hour. Then we use a blender to blend our ketchup until it’s smooth. This way we don’t have to strain the seeds which is a great time saver. We then let the blended mixture simmer for another hour which allows it to cook down and thicken.
