I love horseradish and this homemade keto horseradish sauce is one of my favorite recipes ever! I hope you love it too!
In just 10 minutes, and with only 3 ingredients, you’ll be amazed at how easy and delicious this homemade keto horseradish sauce is! I have been making this horseradish sauce for many years and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Let’s talk about horseradish root!
Horseradish root is a fascinating food. It is a root vegetable and part of the mustard family. The taste of horseradish is incredibly sharp and unique. I’ve been a horseradish lover for quite some time and have tried quite a few brands; but I love my homemade horseradish sauce over anything else I’ve tried! Horseradish is delicious and it’s also good for you. It contains some important nutrients including calcium, folate, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamin C. One of the important things to know about using horseradish root is that is can be quite strong! You might want to open a window or two when grating it and be prepared for a strong pungent odor even greater than onions!
What ingredients are used to make this awesome homemade keto horseradish sauce?
The main ingredient for this recipe is, of course, horseradish root. When you pick your horseradish root, make sure the root doesn’t have soft spots. It should be firm throughout and you should use it as soon as possible after purchasing. This will help to ensure it keeps its freshness and heat level! I choose to grate my horseradish root by hand. Use one of the larger grate options on your grater for the best results. One important thing to know is that horseradish roots vary on their heat level. The other way you can adjust the heat level in your horseradish sauce is varying when you add your vinegar. If you add the vinegar immediately, you’ll have a milder sauce. If you grate your horseradish and wait for about 3 minutes before adding the vinegar and salt, your horseradish sauce will be much hotter! I use plain white vinegar for my sauce. The only other ingredient is salt which is added to taste!
Do you have any tips for making this homemade keto horseradish sauce?
Yes! I usually post recipes with exact ingredients. But making horseradish sauce calls for some variation in ingredient amounts as personal preferences are important when making horseradish sauce. I suggest adding your vinegar, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired horseradish sauce consistency. Some like their sauce drier than others. I prefer a sauce that is less dry. My ideal horseradish sauce contains a ratio of ¾ cup grated horseradish combined with 7 tablespoons of vinegar. Some recipes call for a combination of water and vinegar and some add sugar. I have found using only vinegar adds a slight level of sweetness and the addition of water and keto sugar is unnecessary. This is a fun recipe to experiment with and find the perfect combination of ingredients that you and your family will love. I added ½ teaspoon of salt to my horseradish sauce; but again, you might want to start with ¼ teaspoon and add more if desired.
What are some ways I can serve this homemade keto horseradish sauce?
There are so many ways you can serve this horseradish sauce! My favorite way to serve this sauce is with a perfectly cooked prime rib! That would be cooked to medium rare!😊But there are numerous options for this sauce. You can add it to some of your favorite breakfasts, including adding it to your scrambled eggs or egg casseroles. Add it to your favorite egg salad, chicken salad, or tuna salad recipes to provide a great kick to your recipes! You can also make some awesome appetizers using this horseradish sauce recipe. Add it to your favorite appetizer dips or hot wing sauce and you’ll have a unique dish which will be sure to impress your family and friends!
