This homemade keto spaghetti sauce is bursting with flavor! We start with fresh tomatoes which results in an amazingly rich and delicious sauce!
You’ll get rave reviews every time you serve this awesome homemade keto spaghetti sauce! Growing up, it was a special occasion in my house when we’d make homemade spaghetti sauce. I remember the aroma in our farmhouse kitchen as the sauce simmered on the stove. When I tasted this spaghetti sauce, it took me right back to that kitchen!
Let’s talk about our tomatoes, onions, and garlic!
I love making all kinds of homemade sauces for my family and this spaghetti sauce is always a huge hit! For this spaghetti sauce, we’re using two kinds of tomatoes. We’re adding both vine ripened and Roma tomatoes. The vine ripened tomatoes bring amazing flavor and juiciness to our sauce. Roma tomatoes, also known as plum tomatoes, add a touch of sweetness to the sauce. They also cook down nicely which helps to thicken our sauce. The onions and garlic add amazing flavor to our sauce. I used a yellow onion, but you can use a white onion if you’d like. If you want a more garlicky sauce, you can add even more garlic to yours! I ended up simmering my spaghetti sauce for 45 minutes; but depending on the juiciness of your tomatoes, you may need to simmer your sauce for a bit longer to allow it to thicken.
What other ingredients go into this homemade keto spaghetti sauce?
This sauce is amazingly delicious, and we have a secret ingredient that takes it over the top in flavor! This ingredient is Kalamata olives. They add amazing depth of flavor to this sauce. Even my daughter, who doesn’t usually like Kalamata olives, loves this sauce. The olives add a nice brininess to the sauce without overpowering it. For seasoning, we add basil, oregano, parsley, rosemary, salt, and pepper. I used all dried seasonings for this sauce. You can substitute with fresh if you’d prefer. If so, the general rule is to use three times as much fresh as you would dried. To add a touch of sweetness and to balance out our flavors, we add just a little keto sugar. You can give your sauce a taste and add even more if you’d like a sweeter sauce.
What are some ways I can serve this homemade keto spaghetti sauce?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this spaghetti sauce! I especially enjoy hearts of palm noodles. These noodles have an amazing texture that, while not exactly like regular pasta, is a wonderful alternative. There are a variety of brands of hearts of palm noodles, and you can find them as angel hair, linguini, or spaghetti. You will want to rinse the pasta, then boil it until it reaches your desired consistency. I also like shirataki pasta, but it’s not close in texture to regular pasta. Another great option for serving this spaghetti sauce as a dipping sauce. I love to make my husband low carb pizza chips, pepperoni cheese bites, and pizza roll ups, and this sauce goes perfectly with them. You can also serve this sauce with chicken nuggets, or with one of our favorites, chicken Parmesan bites!
