I love making homemade condiments and this jalapeno anchovy keto ketchup is one of my favorites! We start with fresh tomatoes and onions, which makes this ketchup amazingly fresh. The addition of anchovies and an awesome blend of spices takes the flavor of this ketchup over the top! I hope you’ll love this low carb ketchup as much as we do!
Let’s talk about our tomatoes and fresh vegetables!
I love making all kinds of homemade keto condiments and playing around with ingredients to do so! I’ve tried different types of tomatoes to make ketchup; and I found the combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes creates the most flavorful ketchup with the perfect consistency. Roma tomatoes, also known as plum tomatoes, add an awesome sweet aspect to our ketchup. They also cook down nicely which helps to thicken our ketchup. Vine ripened tomatoes add juiciness and awesome flavor to our ketchup. We then add onions and a jalapeno which gives our ketchup amazing flavor and a nice spicy kick! I used the whole jalapeno, but if you’d like a milder ketchup, you can discard the seeds and membranes as this is where the majority of the heat comes from. If you want a spicier ketchup, you can add two jalapenos.
What other ingredients go into this jalapeno anchovy keto ketchup?
We add both white wine vinegar and vegetable broth to this ketchup. This combination helps to create the perfect thickness to our ketchup and adds amazing flavor. Then come the anchovies! I enjoy anchovies and the flavor they add to dressings and sauces. Sometimes I use anchovy paste, but since we’re blending this ketchup, I simply used canned anchovies. They add a depth of flavor to this ketchup which is amazing. I add both the anchovies and the oil they’re packed in. We then add a little keto sugar to give our ketchup just a touch of sweetness. I used the Swerve brand, but you can use your favorite keto sugar to make your ketchup. To complete this ketchup, we add celery salt, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, smoked paprika, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. Yum!😊
