This keto bourbon vanilla cranberry sauce will elevate any meal to the next level. It contains the perfect combination of sweet and tart flavors!
My family absolutely loves this keto bourbon vanilla cranberry sauce! It was one of the stars of our Thanksgiving dinner. This sauce has a great balance of sweetness and tartness. I hope you’ll enjoy this special cranberry sauce as much as we do!
Let’s talk about cranberries!
When following a low carb keto plan, there are very few fruits that can be eaten since most are high in carbs. The awesome news is that most berries, including cranberries, are a wonderful choice when eaten in moderation. One cup of cranberries contains about 8 net grams of carbs. Cranberries are a low-calorie food but provide us with a source of copper, manganese, and vitamins A, C, E, and K. One of our favorite holiday traditions is making homemade cranberry sauce. As the cranberries cook, they burst open with a popping sound that the kids and I never fail to be entertained by! Most of the cranberries will pop while they’re cooking, and some will remain whole. If you’d like, you can use a spoon and smash some or all of the ones that stay whole.
What other ingredients go into this keto bourbon vanilla cranberry sauce?
Cranberries are quite tart and a bit on the bitter side, so they need a little help to add sweetness and the perfect spice level to them. For this cranberry sauce, I added both keto brown and granulated sugar. I used the Swerve brand for both sugars as they contain zero calories and zero net carbs. They’re also delicious and similar in their sweetness level to regular sugar. For a burst of flavor and acidity we add both the juice and zest of a lemon to our sauce. You’ll be amazed at the depth of flavor that comes about with the addition of bourbon and a generous amount of vanilla. Both ingredients also work to enhance all the other flavors in our sauce. We’re purposefully adding the bourbon early so the alcohol will burn off, but the flavor will remain. To complete our sauce, we add some pumpkin pie spice.
