This keto Calabrian chili ketchup has an awesome kick of spice combined with subtle smoky, salty, and sweet elements. Yum!
I absolutely love this keto Calabrian chili ketchup! I consider the heat level of this ketchup to be mild to medium, and it has an awesome depth of flavor! We start with fresh tomatoes, so this ketchup is amazingly fresh and flavorful! I hope you’ll enjoy this ketchup as much as we do!
Let’s talk about our tomatoes and onions!
When I first started making my own ketchup, I played around with the ingredients until I found what really made the best ketchup. I found that the combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes cooked down to create a ketchup with the perfect thickness and texture. I use 2 pounds of Roma tomatoes and 1 pound of vine ripened tomatoes to make my ketchup. Roma tomatoes, also called plum tomatoes, are a little sweet and cook down nicely to help thicken our ketchup. Then the addition of some vine ripened tomatoes adds awesome flavor and juiciness of our ketchup. We also add some chopped onions to our ketchup. They give the ketchup amazing flavor. I used yellow onions for my ketchup, but you can use white onions if you’d prefer. We’re going to blend our ketchup, so you can just roughly chop both your tomatoes and your onions.
What other ingredients go into this keto Calabrian chili ketchup?
To our tomatoes and onions, we add distilled white vinegar and beef broth which helps to give our ketchup just the right amount of acidity and extra flavor. If you’d like, you can also use vegetable broth to make your ketchup. If you’ve never used Calabrian chilis, you’re in for a treat. They are spicy, but they’re also smoky, salty, and a bit sweet. I used 6 Calabrian peppers, but you can use even more if you’d like a spicier ketchup! A little keto granulated sugar cuts the acidity of this ketchup and adds an extra touch of sweetness. I used the Swerve brand of sugar as it contains zero calories and zero net carbs, but is impressively similar in its sweetness level to regular sugar. For seasoning, we add celery salt, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, smoked paprika, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg.
How can I serve this keto Calabrian chili ketchup?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this ketchup! It’s the perfect condiment for burgers, brats, sausage, and any grilled meats. You can also serve it with keto sandwiches and lettuce wraps. It’s also great to serve with keto meatloaf or meatballs or alongside pulled chicken or pulled pork. I love serving this ketchup as a dipping sauce for keto chicken nuggets! You can also serve this ketchup with seafood. A fun and easy cocktail sauce can be made by combining this ketchup with some prepared horseradish. This ketchup also makes a great topping for all kinds of egg dishes. Additionally, you can use this ketchup for any dish, dressing, glaze, or sauce which calls for ketchup.
