When you want an amazingly delicious and satisfying dish, this keto chili with smoked sausage is a perfect choice! This chili is comfort food in a bowl!
I love making all kinds of soup, stew, and chili dishes; and this keto chili with smoked sausage is one of our new favorites. We combine ground beef and smoked sausage with peppers and onions as the base of our chili. Then we add diced tomatoes, beef broth, and the perfect seasonings to create an absolutely delicious chili. You can eat this as is, or you can top it with your favorite chili toppings!
Let’s talk about the meats in our chili!
My family loves a good meaty chili, and that’s exactly what this one is! I used 93% lean ground beef for this chili, but you can use any kind you’d like. You’ll just want to make sure you drain the grease before adding the beef to the chili. If you’d like to make a substitution for the ground beef, some great options include using ground turkey, ground pork, or Italian sausage. You can use mild Italian sausage or hot Italian sausage. For the sausage, you have lots of great options. You will want to use fully cooked sausage. For mine, I used no-sugar added smoked beef sausage links. You can also use pork sausage links. Another great option is to use cooked brats or use a cooked ring sausage such as kielbasa. If you’d like some extra heat, you could also use cooked andouille sausage.
What other ingredients go into this keto chili with smoked sausage?
We add some awesome ingredients and simple seasonings to make this delicious chili. For our veggies, we’re using a combination of bell peppers and onions. I used a combination of orange, red, and yellow peppers because that’s what I had in my fridge. You can use any color or color combination of peppers you’d like. I used both regular and petite diced tomatoes for my chili, but depending on how chunky you’d like yours, you can use all regular or all petite diced for yours. The beef broth adds amazing flavor to this chili. You can also use vegetable broth if you’d prefer. I added a little keto sugar to help reduce the acidity of the tomatoes and to balance out all the flavors. For seasoning, we’re simply adding chili powder and cumin.
What are some ways I can serve this keto chili with smoked sausage?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this chili. For toppings, some great choices include diced or sliced avocado, diced onions, sour cream, shredded cheese, or sliced black olives. To add a little heat, you could also top your chili with some sliced jalapenos. Another wonderful option is to serve this chili with a green salad or with some keto biscuits, chaffles, cornbread, or English muffins. Something that I love to do for parties or get togethers is to serve a variety of keto appetizers, then serve chili as the main. This chili would be perfect for that and you can even double the recipe if serving for a large crowd. Of course, you’ll want to end your meal with a decadent keto dessert…or two!😊
