We also add fresh vegetables, and we then create an amazing broth for our soup. I hope you’ll enjoy this comfort food in a bowl soup as much as we do!
Let’s talk about some of the fresh ingredients we add to our keto ham bone turnip soup!
The fresh vegetables in our soup add amazing flavor and texture! They also add some awesome color to our soup. We start our soup by sauteing both green and red peppers with onions and celery. I used both butter and olive oil to saute my vegetables as I love the flavor this combination brings. For your peppers, you can use any color or color combination of bell peppers for your soup. I used a yellow onion for my soup, but a red onion would also be a good choice. After sauteing these vegetables, you’ll only want to add the garlic during the last minute or so to ensure your garlic doesn’t burn. If you’d like, you can add even more garlic to your soup!
Are turnips a good keto food choice?
Turnips are a wonderful keto option. When used in moderation, they can easily be incorporated into a low carb keto plan. Turnips are a low calorie and relatively low carb food. They’re amazing mashed, roasted, or steamed and served as an amazingly delicious side dish: but they also make a great addition to soups, stews, and casseroles. Turnips can have a mild bitter taste, but smaller turnips do tend to be less bitter. They also lose some of their bitterness when cooked. Another good thing to know about turnips is that they have a thicker skin and are a bit tougher than potatoes, so you’ll want to be careful when chopping them. You can chop your turnips into small or medium sized pieces for your soup.
