This keto hamburger green bean casserole is a hearty dish the whole family will love! It’s perfectly creamy, cheesy, and delicious!
When you want a flavorful and filling comfort food dish, this keto hamburger green bean casserole will always satisfy! We combine ground beef, green beans, and cheese with a creamy sauce, then top it with even more cheese. This dish comes together in under an hour so it’s perfect for even your busiest of days!
Let’s talk about our ground beef mixture!
I like to use lean ground beef, usually 90-93% lean, when making casseroles. You can use a fattier mixture if you’d like. You’ll just want to make sure you drain the grease well before adding the beef to the casserole. If you’d prefer, you could also substitute with ground chicken, ground pork, or ground turkey to make this dish. You can also use a combination of ground meats. I especially like the combination of ground beef with ground pork. If you can get your hands on it, ground elk and ground venison are also delicious choices. We cook our ground beef with diced onions, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. I used a yellow onion, but a red or white onion would work great too. I didn’t add any bell peppers to my casserole, but if you’d like you could add some diced peppers to your dish.
What other ingredients go into this keto hamburger green bean casserole?
To our ground beef mixture, we add green beans and shredded cheese. This casserole comes together quickly and one of the reasons is that we’re using canned beans. I used French cut green beans, but you could use regular cut green beans if you’d like. If you’d like to use fresh beans, you’ll want to cook them and drain them well before adding them to your casserole. You can also use frozen beans. Again, you’ll want to cook them and drain them well. Draining your beans will help ensure your casserole doesn’t end up watery. For the cheese, I used cheddar. Alternately, you can use any good melting cheese for your dish. Colby, colby jack, gouda, gruyere, havarti, Monterey jack, mozzarella, provolone, and Swiss are all good choices. For the best results, I recommend buying a block of cheese and shredding it yourself.
How do I make the sauce for this keto hamburger green bean casserole?
The sauce for this casserole is quick and easy to make. It’s also incredibly creamy and flavorful. For our creamy base, we combine cottage cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Whenever I make a sauce with cottage cheese, I ask myself why I don’t use it more often, as it adds such great taste and texture. I prefer to use full-fat cottage cheese and always check the nutritional labels to ensure there are no added ingredients I don’t want. Daisy cottage cheese is a good choice as it contains only cultured milk, cream, and salt. For mayonnaise, I enjoy the Chosen Foods brand avocado oil mayonnaise. When buying mayonnaise, you’ll want to make sure there is no added sugar or oils you don’t want. Last, we add tamari to our sauce. After adding the sauce to the casserole, we top our dish with even more shredded cheese!
