Keto key lime mousse is such a delicious and refreshing dessert. And it only takes 10 minutes to make! Enjoy!
I love making my family quick, easy, and delicious desserts, and this keto key lime mousse was a huge hit at my house. We make this mousse using just one bowl, so it comes together quickly. Adding key lime juice brings amazing fresh flavor to this mousse and will have you thinking Spring every time you make it!
Let’s talk about key limes!
I’m a big fan of limes and love making sweet and savory dishes using lime juice and lime zest. When you see limes in the store, you’ll usually see the round or oval shaped green limes called Persian limes. They have a fairly thick skin, and their juice has an amazing tangy and acidic flavor. Key limes, on the other hand, have skins which often have somewhat of a yellow hue to them and the skins are much thinner. Key limes are also usually much smaller that regular limes, so each key lime will give you less juice than you’ll get from Persian limes. Flavor wise, key lime juice is tart but not too acidic. Key limes are also much more aromatic than their Persian counterparts. If you can get your hands on fresh key limes, that’s great. I used bottled key lime juice for my mousse.
What other ingredients go into this keto key lime mousse?
We start our mousse by beating cream cheese with keto powdered sugar. You’ll want to use softened cream cheese to help create the most creamy and smooth mousse. I used the Swerve brand for my sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs and is amazingly similar in its sweetness level to regular sugar. If you use another keto brand, you may have to adjust the amount you use as each brand has different sweetness levels. After you beat your cream cheese and powdered sugar together, you’ll add heavy whipping cream, your key lime juice, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. It’s completely optional, but you can add a few drops, or as many drops as you’d like😊, of green food coloring to your mousse. You’ll then beat this mixture until stiff peaks form and until it thickens.
How do I make homemade keto whipped cream to top my keto key lime mousse?
It’s so quick and easy to make homemade keto whipped cream, and it turns out amazingly creamy and delicious. Once I started making my own, I never wanted anything else! It’s important to know that your mixture will basically double in size when you beat it, so you’ll want to make sure you’re using a large enough bowl. For the best results, I recommend chilling your mixing bowl and beaters for 15-20 minutes before using. Then to your chilled bowl, you’ll add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 2 tablespoons of keto powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. You’ll then beat this mixture until stiff peaks form. Stiff peaks mean when you remove the beaters, they form peaks which completely hold their shape. You can also easily double this recipe to make a larger batch.
