With just 3 ingredients and in just 30 minutes, you’ll be amazed at how delicious this keto lemonade is! We start with a simple syrup, then add fresh lemon juice and water to create an awesome and refreshing lemonade. And coming in at just 3.2 carbs per serving, you and your family can enjoy this lemonade all year long!
Let’s talk about lemons!
Lemons are an awesome fruit that can easily be incorporated into a low carb keto plan. Lemons are a low calorie and low carb food. They are a great source for getting vitamin C and citric acid into your diet. Lemons do contain a small amount of iron; but they work in an amazing way to also help your body absorb iron from plant sources. One of the great things about lemons is you can add some lemon juice and zest to add some fresh taste and a little zip to so many recipes. You can add lemon to your water for a great change up. Another great way to use lemons is in making dips, dressings, sauces, and vinaigrettes. A squirt of lemon juice over your favorite fish and seafood makes for a delicious addition!
How do I make the simple syrup for this keto lemonade?
Simple syrup is made by simply combining an equal amount of sugar and water, and heating until the sugar dissolves. I used the Swerve brand of granulated sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs. It’s also delicious. You’ll simply heat, while stirring frequently, your mixture until all the sugar is dissolved. After your sugar is all dissolved, remove your saucepan from the heat. You can let your mixture cool to room temperature and then place it in the refrigerator to cool. I took a shortcut and poured my simple syrup into a large measuring cup. I then placed the measuring cup into a large mixing bowl and added some ice and water to the mixing bowl.
Do you have any tips for making this keto lemonade?
This is a fun and easy recipe, but there are a few things I’d like to share with you so yours comes out perfectly! First, when juicing your lemons, I recommend you strain the juice, so you don’t end up with pulpy lemonade. If you like pulp in your lemonade, you can skip this step. Next, everyone has a preference on how sweet and how tart they like their lemonade. Taste your lemonade and if you’d like it to have more tartness, you can add more lemon juice. If you give it a try and it’s too tart, simply add water, a little at a time, until you get your perfect lemonade! Last, if you have leftover lemonade, you’ll want to store it in a sealed container or in a jar with a lid. You’ll then want to stir it or shake it before serving.
