With only 8 ingredients and in just 15 minutes, you can make this rich and awesome keto maple vanilla hot chocolate! You do not have to give up sweet comforting drinks on the keto plan. This hot chocolate contains just 4 net carbs per serving; and it is so delicious, if you don’t tell anyone, they’ll never guess it is low carb!
What ingredients are in this keto maple vanilla hot chocolate?
We start with unsweetened almond milk. It is low carb and an excellent substitution for the high carb milk found in many regular hot chocolates. The heavy cream helps to make this hot chocolate incredibly rich and creamy. I chose the Swerve brand of powdered sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs. It is also delicious! My go-to unsweetened cocoa powder is the Rodelle brand. It has a deep rich flavor which adds to the depth of flavor in this drink. A pinch of salt gives just a hint of flavor and helps bring out the other flavors!
The addition of a couple tablespoons of some keto semi-sweet chocolate chips adds flavor and creaminess to this hot chocolate. I used the chocolate chips from Lily’s. They contain zero net carbs and taste great. Vanilla is a common addition to hot chocolate. It both adds flavor and brings out the sweetness of the other ingredients. Maple extract brings about excellent and unique flavor for this hot chocolate. It also smells incredible!
I have to tell you about one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year!
I love Christmas! It is such an awesome time to spend with family, enjoy great food, share our love with the giving of gifts, and to remember the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. This year, our Christmas was relaxing and fun. The prime rib with homemade horseradish sauce and some awesome sides and desserts made for a very special meal. And we had a blast opening gifts and seeing the pleasure our specially chosen gifts gave to one another. My son gave us some awesome gifts, bought with the money he earned working with his dad. My daughter chose some great gifts for all of us, including a pair of mugs for her dad and me. Aren’t they awesome…the kids and the mugs.😊We are truly blessed!
Are there any toppings you’d suggest for this keto maple vanilla hot chocolate?
This drink is amazing all on its own, but there are a couple of toppings you can easily add to it if you’d like. I love making homemade keto whipped topping. If you have time, I suggest putting your mixing bowl and beaters in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before using. Then simply add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream to the bowl with 2 tablespoons of your favorite keto powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Beat, using an electric mixer, until stiff peaks form. You’ll be amazed at how easy and delicious this whipped cream is! The other topping that you might like for this hot chocolate is grated keto chocolate. It is a quick and easy addition and adds additional beauty to this drink. You can grate any keto chocolate you’d like. I simply grate a Lily’s semi-sweet chocolate chip on top of each drink.
