This keto taco pie is an awesomely filling and delicious low carb dish! It will be a super addition to your regular recipe rotation!
When you want a delicious meal that’s ready in just 45 minutes, this keto taco pie is a perfect choice. I made this dish, then was overjoyed when my son requested it for two days in a row as leftovers because he enjoyed it so much. I hope you’ll love this dish as much as we do!
Let’s talk about our taco seasoned meat!
I love to make homemade seasoning mixes. When you make your own mixes, you can be assured of the exact ingredients added to you mix and can avoid any unwanted ingredients. For our taco seasoning, we combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt, onion powder, pepper, and oregano. This is my go-to taco seasoning. Alternately, if you’d like, you can use your favorite taco seasoning for this dish. I like to use an 85% lean ground beef mixture for this taco pie, but you can use any kind you’d like. Just make sure you drain the grease well before adding the taco seasoning. If you’d like, you could substitute ground turkey or even ground chicken for the beef.
What other ingredients go into our keto taco pie?
Sometimes I like to make intricate dishes which contain lots of ingredients and lots of steps. But it’s also great to be able to make quick and easy dishes which contain just a few ingredients. Often these are tastier than the difficult ones!😊This taco pie is a great example of that! We combine eggs, heavy whipping cream, and sour cream which will make an awesome topping for our pie. When it bakes, the mixture sets and forms an awesome top crust layer to our taco pie. You’ll want to whisk this mixture until its mostly smooth. Don’t worry if you have a few small lumps of sour cream in your mixture. For the cheese, I recommend buying a block of cheese and shredding it yourself. It is superior in taste and melts great! I used cheddar cheese, but you can use any good melting cheese for your taco pie.
How can I serve this keto taco pie?
This taco pie is filling and can be served as a complete meal in itself. If you’d like, you can top your taco pie with some chopped green onions, sour cream, or tomatoes. Some other topping options include diced jalapenos, guacamole, or sliced avocados or olives. You could even top yours with a dash or two of hot sauce. You can also add some keto biscuits or English muffins to serve with your taco pie. A keto soup could be added to this dish or even a side of vegetables. Another nice option is to serve this taco pie with a side salad.
Here are a few side salads that would pair nicely with this taco pie!
Caesar Salad with Keto Croutons
Creamy Keto Cilantro Lime Coleslaw
Creamy Keto Tomato Cucumber Salad
Helpful Hints:
*For best results, I recommend shredding your own cheese for this taco pie.
*You can substitute any good melting cheese for the cheddar if you’d prefer.
