I love making my family low carb and delicious dishes, and these keto taco sloppy joes are always a hit! We combine ground beef with homemade taco seasoning and just a few simple ingredients to make these fun and delicious sloppy joes. I hope you’ll enjoy these sloppy joes as much as we do!
Let’s talk about our taco seasoning!
I love making homemade seasoning mixes. When you make your own mixes, you can be assured they contain only the ingredients you want and that they don’t have any unwanted added ingredients. If buying ready made mixes, you’ll want to check your ingredients to ensure there are no added ingredients such as corn meal, corn starch, potato starch, sugar, and wheat flour just to name a few which are often added to these mixes. When you make your own seasoning mixes, you can also customize them for your taste preferences. I tried quite a few taco seasoning combinations before coming up with one that was perfect for us! We combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt, onion powder, pepper, and dried oregano for our taco seasoning. If you’d like, you can also substitute with your favorite taco seasoning.
What other ingredients go into our keto taco sloppy joes?
I used a 93% lean ground beef mixture for my sloppy joes, but you can use an 85% or even 80% mixture for yours. After cooking, you’ll just want to make sure you drain the grease before adding the other ingredients. If you’d like, you could also substitute with some ground turkey for these sloppy joes. I like to saute the onions with the beef. To our ground beef and onions, we add our taco seasoning. Then we add salsa, water, tomato paste, and keto brown sugar. I like to use a mild or medium salsa for my sloppy joes. If you’d like to up your heat level a bit, you could use a hot salsa for yours. For the brown sugar, I use the Swerve brand. It is similar in its sweetness to regular sugar. It’s a delicious keto sugar that contains zero calories and zero net carbs.
How can I serve these keto taco sloppy joes?
You have some great low carb options for serving your sloppy joes. This is amazingly delicious, served as is in a bowl. You can also top it with some shredded cheese, diced onions, guacamole, or sour cream. If you’d like, you could serve this as a sandwiches using your favorite keto bread, biscuits, English muffins, or chaffles. You can also make lettuce wraps using this sloppy joe mixture. I love salads and think I can turn almost anything, including these sloppy joes, into an amazing salad. Simply top your favorite lettuce, lettuce mix, or spinach with some of this sloppy joe mixture. Then top with your favorite salad add-ins including bacon, hard boiled eggs, shredded cheese, sliced avocados, or tomatoes and serve with your favorite dressing or vinaigrette. A fun and easy dressing can be made combining equal parts salsa and sour cream.
