Let’s talk about our homemade pizza sauce!
I love making my own sauces. When you make homemade sauces, you can be assured there are only ingredients you want in them, and you’ll know there is no added sugar, artificial colors or flavors, or anything else you don’t want in them. For our pizza sauce, we’re combining some simple yet flavorful ingredients to create a low carb keto sauce that can be used in any recipe calling for pizza sauce! Also, this sauce doesn’t need to be cooked, so that’s an extra bonus and time saver. To make this sauce, we start by combining tomato sauce with tomato paste. This combination creates an awesomely rich and delicious sauce. The addition of olive oil, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder adds the most amazing flavors to our sauce while also keeping it low carb.
What other ingredients do we use to make these mini pepper pizza bites?
You’ll be amazed at how combining just a few simple ingredients creates such a delicious dish. We’re using mini peppers for this dish. They’re smaller and sweeter than regular bell peppers. Larger mini peppers are easier to stuff than the real little ones; but most packages will contain a variety of sizes. After dividing our homemade pizza sauce between the peppers, we then top them the cheese. I recommend buying a block of cheese and grating it yourself as it melts the best. Last, we top our pepper bites with mini pepperoni. If you can’t find mini pepperoni, you can use regular pepperoni and cut it into smaller pieces. Depending on the sizes of your mini peppers, you’ll use different amounts of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni for each pepper. I topped some of my smaller peppers with three mini pepperoni and was able to fit four on the larger ones.
How can I serve these mini pepper pizza bites?
You have some great options for serving these bites. They can be served as an appetizer or snack option. If you’d like, you could even serve these as a side dish or as a main dish. As an appetizer, they’re great for barbecues, parties, and for holiday and special occasion meals. If you’d like, you can prep these bites, then just pop them in the oven when your friends and family arrive. These bites also make for an awesome snack! They reheat well, so they’re a great choice for leftovers too! These bites are a great side dish for all kinds of main dishes. Burgers, any kind of meat, meatloaf, keto casseroles, chili, and egg dishes are just a few options for mains that would pair nicely with these pizza bites.
