Mom’s homemade keto ketchup is an amazingly delicious ketchup which combines fresh tomatoes, onions, vinegar, vegetable broth, and keto sugar with an awesome spice mixture!
Mom’s homemade keto ketchup is our go-to ketchup. It’s also the result of a bunch of trial-and-error experimentations with different ingredients and cooking methods. This ketchup combines the perfect amount of sweetness, tartness, and savory flavors to create the ideal keto ketchup. I hope you’ll love this ketchup as much as we do!
Let’s talk about the tomatoes and onions we use to make this keto ketchup!
I used a combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes to make this ketchup. This combination results in an amazingly delicious ketchup with the ideal thickness and texture. Roma tomatoes, also known as plum tomatoes, give our ketchup a little sweet aspect. They also cook down nicely which helps to thicken our ketchup. Our vine ripened tomatoes add amazing flavor and add to the juiciness of our ketchup. I find the combination produces the perfect balance of flavors and texture to make this homemade ketchup. We also add chopped onions to our ketchup. This gives our ketchup amazing flavor while not adding too many carbs. I used yellow onions for my ketchup, but a white onion would be a nice substitution as well.
What other ingredients are added to mom’s homemade keto ketchup?
To our tomatoes and onions, we add distilled white vinegar, vegetable broth, keto sugar, and an awesome spice mixture. Our spice mixture includes celery salt, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, smoked paprika, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. I experimented with different vinegars, keto sugars, and spices before coming up with the perfect combination for this ketchup. This is our favorite ketchup, but you can always give your ketchup a taste and make changes based upon your taste preferences. You could try substituting with apple cider vinegar or with using keto brown sugar to make your ketchup. Some other substitutions would include using beef or chicken broth in place of the vegetable broth, or adding even more ground cloves and nutmeg. If you’d like to add a little kick to your ketchup, you could add some cayenne or your favorite hot sauce.
What are some ways I can serve mom’s homemade keto ketchup?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this keto ketchup! As a condiment, it makes an awesome addition to burgers, brats, and sausages. You can also serve it with keto sandwiches and all kinds of cooked meats. You can use it for your favorite keto meatloaf or can serve it with meatballs. It can be served with all kinds of eggs including fried and scrambled eggs. It also makes a great addition to omelets or egg casseroles. In place of high carb potatoes, I like to make roasted radishes or kohlrabi, or sauteed rutabaga or turnips with bacon; and this ketchup would go great with all of them. You can also use it to make any dressings, sauces, or glazes which call for ketchup. I’m sure after trying it, you’ll find all kinds of fun ways to enjoy this ketchup!
