Let’s talk about the ingredients in our queso fresco guacamole!
Our delicious queso fresco guacamole contains just a handful of ingredients, but results in a delicious and incredibly flavorful dip. And although avocados are the star of our guacamole, they do need some help to create this amazing guacamole dip! To our avocados, we add fresh lime juice, diced tomatoes, queso fresco cheese, fresh cilantro, red onion, salt, and garlic powder. Isn’t that an awesome combination! I used a seeded Roma tomato for my guacamole, but you can use any type of tomato you’d like. This is a mild guacamole. If you’d prefer a spicier guacamole, you can easily adjust your dip to add some heat to it. You can add some chili powder, red pepper flakes, or hot sauce to increase the spice level in your guacamole. One of the best options to up the heat level in your guacamole is to add some diced jalapenos to it!
What is queso fresco cheese?
Queso fresco, also translated “fresh cheese,” is a Mexican cheese. It is made from cow’s milk or a combination of cow and goat milk. Queso fresco cheese has a mild taste, combining milky, salty, and slightly sour flavors which complement a wide variety of dishes. It is a soft and crumbly cheese, and its texture is similar to that of feta cheese. Queso fresco cheese doesn’t melt well, so you’ll often see it added as a topping in traditional Mexican dishes. It works perfectly in our guacamole since it provides a creamy texture and delicious flavor!
How can I serve this queso fresco guacamole?
You have some awesome low carb options for serving this guacamole! To serve this guacamole as a dip, you can use low carb raw vegetables as dippers. Some wonderful options include broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, and sliced bell peppers and radishes. Cheese whisps and pork rinds also make for delicious dippers for this guacamole. If you have a favorite keto chip or cracker, that’s also a great option to serve with this dip.
