Let’s talk about our homemade ranch seasoning mix!
I love making my own homemade seasoning mixes and ranch seasoning is one of my favorites. I use it to make ranch dressing and in any recipe calling for ranch seasoning mix. You have some great reasons for making your own ranch seasoning mix. First, it’s quick and easy to make your own seasoning mix, and it’s amazingly delicious as well. Next, when you make your own seasoning mix, you can avoid unwanted ingredients that are often added to mixes. Some of the most common of these include artificial colors and flavors, maltodextrin, msg, preservatives, and sugar. You’ll also find it a money saver to make your own ranch seasoning mix. To make this seasoning mix, we combine parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, chives, dill, salt, and pepper. Since we’re using dried herbs and spices to make this mix, you likely have all the ingredients in your pantry!
What kind of peppers and onions should I use to make these ranch sauteed peppers and onions?
To make these peppers and onions, we use four bell peppers. I used one green pepper, one orange pepper, one red pepper, and one yellow pepper. You can use any color or color combination of bell peppers to make this dish. Fun fact for the day! Bell peppers start as green, then turn to yellow and orange, and finally red as they’re allowed to ripen. Green peppers are therefore the most bitter. Yellow and orange bell peppers are sweeter, and red peppers are the sweetest. Green peppers are also the lowest in carbs and the others are slightly higher in carbs. For the onions, I used a medium yellow onion and ½ of a medium red onion to make this dish. Alternately, you can use yellow, red, or white onions or any combination of onions. For both the peppers and onions, you’ll want to cut them into strips.
What are some ways I can serve these ranch sauteed peppers and onions?
You have some great low carb options for serving these peppers and onions. They are a perfect side for all kinds of keto mains. An awesome choice is to saute some keto sausage to serve with these peppers and onions. One of my favorite sugar free options is Teton Waters Polish Sausage. You can also use any beef, chicken, pork sausage or bratwurst. You’ll just want to check nutritional labels to ensure there is no added sugar or other ingredients you don’t want. These peppers and onions can also be served with any grilled meats, fajitas, or keto tacos. You can also serve them with all kinds of keto casseroles.
