Let’s talk about our ingredients!
We start with pork breakfast sausage. You can use mild or hot sausage depending on your taste preference. If you’d like, you can substitute with regular ground pork, or with ground beef, chicken, or turkey. To our meat, we add diced peppers and onions. You can use any color or color combination of bell peppers you’d like. You can also use a yellow onion in place of the red if you’d prefer. For our egg mixture, we combine eggs, a little heavy whipping cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pork breakfast sausage has amazing flavor, so we don’t have to add many extra seasonings. If you use a different kind of meat, you may want to add some seasonings. Some commonly added to make breakfast sausage include fennel, paprika or smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, rosemary, sage, and thyme. Last, we add shredded cheese, lots of shredded cheese!🧀
How do I make this sausage egg breakfast skillet?
This dish comes together quickly and is so easy to make! First, you’ll want to cook your sausage with the peppers and onions until the meat is cooked through. I recommend draining as much grease as possible from the meat. To save time, I mix up my egg mixture and shred my cheese while the meat is cooking. You’ll want to whisk your egg mixture well which will help make the eggs light and fluffy. One of the great things about this dish is that you don’t have to remove the meat from the skillet. You simply pour the egg mixture over the sausage mixture and let it cook, stirring a few times, until the eggs are set! Last, you simply top the dish evenly with the shredded cheese, cover the skillet, and let it cook for a couple more minutes until all the cheese is melted.
How can I serve this sausage egg breakfast skillet?
This is a great dish to serve for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even dinner! It’s a filling dish and can be simply served as is to be a meal all on its own. It you’d like, you could top this dish with some chopped chives, green onions, or parsley. You can also serve it with some diced or chopped avocados, onions, or tomatoes, or with some guacamole or sour cream. Another great option is to serve this dish with some keto biscuits or English muffins. Keto chaffles, pancakes, or waffles would also pair nicely with this sausage egg skillet.
