This smoky keto egg salad is a fun and incredibly delicious egg salad! This is a perfect dish to bring to parties, potlucks, and get togethers!
When you want a fun twist to your egg salad, this smoky keto egg salad is an awesome choice! My whole family loves egg salad, and I have an easy and delicious go-to traditional egg salad recipe I often turn to. But I also have lots of fun making different variations of egg salad by adding different ingredients, herbs, and spices. For this egg salad, we add some great ingredients to make a delicious egg salad that has a wonderful smoky element. Enjoy!
Let’s talk about eggs!
Eggs are an awesome keto food choice. They are a low-calorie and low carb food. They’re also incredibly nutritious and are a good source of protein and healthy fats! Eggs contain calcium, choline, folate, lutein, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, and vitamins A, B, D, E, and K. For this dish, we are using hard boiled eggs, but eggs can also be baked, fried, poached, or scrambled. You have any number of ways to incorporate eggs into dishes. They’ll be the star of the dish when you fry or scramble them, or when you add them to breakfast casseroles, frittatas, omelets, quiches, or in egg salads! You can also add eggs to main dish casseroles, salads, and stir fry dishes. Hard boiled eggs also make for a filling snack option. Another fun way to use eggs is to top burgers, sandwiches, meats, or vegetables with a fried or poached egg!
How do I make the dressing for this smoky keto egg salad?
The dressing for our egg salad contains just a few ingredients but they result in a creamy, smoky, and flavorful mixture. We start with a base of keto mayonnaise. I used the Chosen Foods brand avocado oil mayo, but you can use your favorite for your egg salad. To our mayo, we add spicy brown mustard, smoked paprika, liquid smoke, tamari, salt, and pepper. When buying liquid smoke, you’ll want to check the ingredient list. Although low in carbs, many brands add sugar, molasses, and artificial coloring. There are a few differences between soy sauce and tamari, the main one being that most tamaris are gluten free. I recommend checking your nutritional labels to be sure. After adding your dressing to your chopped eggs, I recommend giving the salad a taste. You can then add more salt and pepper, or even more smoked paprika and liquid smoke if you’d like.
How can I serve this smoky keto egg salad?
You have some amazing low carb options for serving this egg salad. I can attest to the fact it’s delicious served as is in a big bowl! It can also be served as a dip. Some great options for dippers include raw vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, grape or cherry tomatoes, or sliced bell peppers or radishes. You can also use cheese whisps, keto crackers, pork rinds, or even cheese slices as dippers. If you’d like, you can serve this in a sandwich using your favorite keto bread, biscuits, chaffles, or English muffins. Another option is to serve this as a filling for a lettuce wrap or atop some lettuce or spinach. Add a keto soup and you have an awesome soup and salad meal!
