When you want ketchup with a kick, this spicy homemade keto ketchup is the perfect choice! This low carb ketchup is incredibly fresh and delicious!
This spicy homemade keto ketchup is amazingly delicious with a nice level of heat! We combine fresh ingredients with an awesome spice mixture to create this keto ketchup. I hope you’ll love this spicy ketchup as much as we do!
Let’s talk about our tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos!
I used a combination of Roma and vine ripened tomatoes to make this ketchup. This gives our ketchup amazing flavor and gives it the perfect thickness. Roma tomatoes, also called plum tomatoes, give our ketchup a nice touch of sweetness and they cook down nicely which helps thicken our ketchup. Vine ripened tomatoes add amazing flavor and juiciness to our ketchup. For the onions, I used a yellow onion, but white would also work well. The “spicy” in our ketchup comes from the addition of jalapeno peppers. A good thing to know about peppers is that the majority of heat is contained in the seeds and membranes. I added the seeds and membranes to my ketchup; but if you want less heat, you can discard as many of the seeds and membranes from your jalapenos as you’d like. Want your ketchup even hotter? Add another jalapeno!
What other ingredients go into this spicy homemade keto ketchup?
To our tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos, we add distilled white vinegar and vegetable broth. I tried different vinegars and broth flavors and found this to be the combination we love! I also found, through experimenting, that I much prefer the taste of using keto granulated sugar versus using keto brown sugar for my ketchup. You can always play around with ingredients to suit your taste! I used the Swerve brand for my sugar. It contains zero calories and zero net carbs. It’s also very similar in its sweetness level to regular sugar. For seasoning, we add an awesome mixture to this ketchup. We add celery salt, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, smoked paprika, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. One of the great things about making your own ketchup is you can taste it and adjust ingredients and amounts of ingredients to make it your own.
How can I serve this spicy homemade keto ketchup?
You have some great low carb options for serving this ketchup! You can use is as a savory condiment with burgers, brats, or sausage. It can also be served with keto sandwiches, lettuce wraps, and with cooked or grilled meats. You can top your meatloaf or meatballs with some of this ketchup to add an awesome kick of flavor. It’s also a great dipping sauce for things such as keto chicken nuggets and all kinds of seafood. You can also use this ketchup for any dish, dressing, glaze, or sauce which calls for ketchup. One of my favorite ways to use this ketchup is as a topping for fried and scrambled eggs, omelets, and egg casseroles!
